SUMMERTIME FREEDOMS
JULY 13, 2015 LEAVE A COMMENT
There are many freedoms that people have here in the US. We have the freedom of speech, religion, press, and that is all guaranteed in just the first amendment. I feel like these freedoms are very present during the summer, but not even just these freedoms. Summer feels freeing in general. Maybe it’s because people have a break or maybe it’s just the summer vibe.
This summer has been very eventful so far. Some events not so happy like the devastating shooting in Charleston. This brings up the freedom to bear arms. This allows individuals to own guns in order to defend themselves. The unfortunate thing is people use this freedom to do horrible things that are unpredictable and not necessary. I believe that those people in Charleston were innocent and there was no reason for someone to go and attack them. My heart goes out to all of the families of those who passed or were injured.
On the other hand, an entirely different freedom has happened this summer. The Supreme Court has ruled same sex marriage legal in all fifty states. Now that rights can be added to the many freedoms that are already allowed in the US, I am very proud to be an American.
I hope that in the future more good things happen and people stop abusing the freedoms that we have by using them to do horrible things. If this can happen the world will become a better place. I am very happy to be living in a generation that accepts everyone– a generation that is free to do all the things we love.
